Amateur Chess Night

Are you interested in playing a live game of chess for fun? Well here’s your opportunity to find chess enthusiasts like you to play a few games with.

Starting April 12, 2018, ChessPalace will host Amateur Chess night every second and fourth Thursdays of the month. We will open the club from 7 pm – 9:30 pm for open casual games. Participants can play as many games as they want within that time and learn from each other. No tournament experience required and games will not be rated so there is no pressure.

We will provide the chess sets and boards. Admission is $5 (Free for ChessPalace club members).

Wednesday Knights Tournament: One USCF-rated game each Wednesday.

The Details: All players will be in one section paired using the Swiss-pairing system. Time control for each player, for each round, is 30moves/90minutes + sudden death 30minutes ( 5-second delay starting move one). Entry fee for the tournament is $20/month ($25 for non-members +$5 for first time club player). A la carte game(s) are available for $8/round ($10 non-members +$5 for first-time club player).

March Scholastic Tournament: Open only to grades Kindergarten to 12th grade. Trophies are awarded for top 3 in each section.

The Details: Round 1 starts at 11:30 AM. Game 60 minutes for K-12 Open section, and Game 30 minutes in all other sections. Entry fee is $35 ($40 same day/on-site).

Imaad Rana tops Regional 3

The last Regionals for the year concluded on November 5th with 30 players in 4 sections.

Imaad Rana swept the field in the open section with a perfect 4 – 0.
In the U1100, Yelyzaveta Systaliuk also won with 4 – 0 rising to her peak rating of 984.
Robin Shen and Owen Tang split the U600 section, scoring 3 points each.
Shubhangi Waldiya won his very first rated tournament in the U400 section.

Action and Blitz Tournaments at the American Open

On Sunday, November 5, 2017, Part 3, the last, of the 2017 Regional Scholastic Chess Series will be held at ChessPalace. Open to kids in grades K-12, we will have four sections again:

c. K-6 under 600
d. K-6 under 400

Time control is 30 minutes with 5-seconds delay per player, per round, and the entry fee is $35; $45 on-site.
