Imaad Rana tops Regional 3

The last Regionals for the year concluded on November 5th with 30 players in 4 sections.

Imaad Rana swept the field in the open section with a perfect 4 – 0.
In the U1100, Yelyzaveta Systaliuk also won with 4 – 0 rising to her peak rating of 984.
Robin Shen and Owen Tang split the U600 section, scoring 3 points each.
Shubhangi Waldiya won his very first rated tournament in the U400 section.

Action and Blitz Tournaments at the American Open

On Sunday, November 5, 2017, Part 3, the last, of the 2017 Regional Scholastic Chess Series will be held at ChessPalace. Open to kids in grades K-12, we will have four sections again:

a. K-12 Open
b. K-12 under 1100
c. K-6 under 600
d. K-6 under 400

Time control is 30 minutes with 5-seconds delay per player, per round, and the entry fee is $35; $45 on-site.

The 2017 American Open Chess Championship is coming up!

On November 23 – 26, 2017, ChessPalace is hosting this annual event, one of the longest running chess tournament in the United States. It was established in 1965 and has since attracted chess players from all over the world and from all levels, beginners to Grandmasters.

Regular entry fee for the 4-day or 3 -day sections of the Main Tournament is $185. (This rate ends at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.) Late registration is on Thursday, November 23 and after, is $220!

A Scholastic Tournament will also run simultaneously with the main tournament of the 2017 American Open Chess Championship.

Scholastic Entry Fees are:
Booster: $50*
Junior Varsity: $60*
Varsity: $70*
(*This regular rate ends 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Late registration, November 13 and after, is: $60 for Booster, $70 for Junior Varsity, and $90 for Varsity.)
