Part 2 of the Regional Scholastic Chess Series is here! It will be held at ChessPalace on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Open to kids in grades K-12, we will have four sections again:

a. K-12 Open
b. K-12 under 1100
c. K-6 under 600
d. K-6 under 400

Time control is 30 minutes with 5-seconds delay per player, per round, and the entry fee is $35; $45 on-site. Discounts are also available for chess players signing up for part 2 and part 3 of the Regional Scholastic Chess Series at the same time.

Details:

  1. Time Control: G30 +10 (Sudden Death 30 minutes with 10 seconds increment each move.)
  2. Round Times: 11:00 am; 12:35 pm; 2:00 pm; 3:15 pm; 4:30 pm
  3. There will be one section only with class prizes plus a trophy for the first place finisher in each class.

Regional Scholastic Chess Series

Want to have an active start to the new school year? Sign up now for our Regional Scholastic Chess Series. The first tournament is on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

The Regional Scholastic Chess Series is a three-part scholastic tournament leading up to the American Open tournament. It will be held on the first Sunday of the month for three months on September 3, October 1, and November 5, 2017. It is open to students in grades Kindergarten to 12th grade.

Each tournament is a stand-alone tournament and players can register for 1, 2, or all 3 of the tournaments. (Please note for players with a combined score of 10 points or more in total from this tournament series will win an entry to the American Open for any section in the Scholastic Tournament.)

Sections, Time Control, & Entry Fees:

There will be 4 sections for each of the tournament in the Regional Scholastic Chess Series. These are:

a. K-12 under 1100
b. K-12 1100 and above
c. K-6 under 600
d. K-6 under 400

Time control is 30 minutes with 5-seconds delay per player, per round, and the entry fee is $35; $45 on-site for each of the tournament in this series. Discounts are available for players signing up for more than one tournament at the same time.

Summer Fiesta Results

As thousands of spectator touring the Santa Monica Pier, 60 players battled under a beautiful sunshine. Giant chess pieces were carried by young player on a life-sized board.

Jonathan Chen tops Summer Fiesta Chess Championship on August 6th, at the Chess Park. In the other sections the ratings were closer together to make the group more competitive, hence more tiebreaks.

Brayden Zarefsky and Tanvi Borse tied in the U1100 section.

Siddesh Ganapathy, Sebastian Moreno, and Keegan Zarefsky tied in the U800 section.

A four-way tie in the U400 section between Benjamin Covarrubias, Greyson Porth, Odin Arnson, and Vahan Davtyan.

In the non-rated section Adrian Guschian won a perfect score!
